Backyard Beginnings: Spring Has Sprung in Minnesota

The snow is melting, the chill is fading, and for the first time in what feels like forever—Minnesota is starting to thaw. No more snowbanks in sight, and I can finally say goodbye to freezing temps (fingers crossed). Spring is officially on its way, and I couldn’t be more excited to kick off another gardening season.

This will be my second year gardening, and I’m feeling more confident than ever. Last year was full of learning—what worked, what didn’t, and what I definitely won’t be doing again. I’ve been reflecting on everything I experienced during my first season: the surprise pests, the joy of my first harvest, and the quiet therapy that came with digging in the dirt after a long day. Gardening has a way of grounding you, literally and figuratively.

I haven’t fully decided what I’m going to grow just yet, but trust me—this year’s garden is going to be epic. I’m experimenting with a few new ideas, and I plan to take everything I learned last season to grow bigger, better, and smarter. Whether it’s rows of juicy tomatoes, fragrant herbs, or a new veggie I’ve never tried, I’m here for the process.

There’s something magical about starting again, especially when the earth feels fresh and full of potential. Here's to warmer days, muddy boots, and watching something beautiful grow—one seed at a time.

Stay tuned, because Backyard Beginnings is just getting started.
